The Westminster Green Plaque scheme recognises 120 locations recording the historic and cultural life of Westminster over the past centuries. The green plaques record individuals, families, organisations and companies highlighting "buildings associated with people of renown who have made lasting contributions to society".
Among the plaques is one recording the London residence of William T Stead, located on Smith Square in London. The plaque, unveiled in 2004, bears the following inscription:
City of Westminster
W. T. Stead 1849-1912
Journalist and reformer of great renown
Lived here 1904-1912
The plaque makes no mention of his death in the Titanic disaster.
